CULTURAL INCLUSION I INTERACTIVE EXPERIENCE

WAKEFIELD LIONS DANCE

Our goal is to promote awareness of the rich diversity within our community and to support all world cultures.

Unlike venues that present performances as isolated spectacles, our approach is interactive, providing a rare opportunity for participants to engage with the traditions directly. Our interactive workshops allow individuals of all backgrounds to learn the art forms’ techniques, histories, and cultural significance, fostering a sense of unity and shared appreciation.

Through our lion dance performances at different events and celebrations, we raise funds for community education and events, as well as for the food rescue program as needed.

Comprised of student and parent volunteers, we are dedicated to this non-profit initiative. Students learn Hung Gar martial arts and practice the Chinese Lion Dance at the same time.

TRAINING PHILOSOPHY

The primary foundation is strong roots and strong foundation.

What is Hung Gar Martial Arts?

Hung Gar Kung Fu is a traditional Chinese martial art that originated in the 17th century in southern China. It's a "soft style" art that uses tiger and crane movements, and is known for its strong stances and intense training. The goal of Hung Gar is to develop coordination and movement efficiency through a combination of internal and external methods, including long and short hand techniques, kicks, and circular movements.

Hung Gar is characterized by:

  • Strong stances: Especially the horse stance, or "si ping ma" (四平馬)

  • Strong hand techniques: Such as the bridge hand

  • Low stances
