Food Rescue

Data

In a span of six months in 2023, we 'rescued' over 7000 wholesome food items from 4 schools and diverted them to local pantries and people in need. This reduces food waste and green-gas; it would have ended up in the landfill otherwise.

This was made possible with support from the WPS District and in collaboration with the Wakefield Environmental Committee (ESC), parent volunteers from the WPS Schools, and community volunteers. (Thank you!)

Ways to Help Communities

We can use more hands on deck! Here are ways you can help contribute:

  • Pick up and drop off food to places on the list (or non-profit organization(s) that can use the food) (estm, 30-40 minutes round trip)

  • Volunteer during lunch at a participating WPS school.

  • Check out the ESC site for additional opportunities.

(For safety measures, one must be Cori'd in order to enter a school setting.)
